2.3Discourse FeaturesThe Perks of Being a Wallflower,is a modern youth literature,which isformed in theline of the leading characters storieswith hisfamily and the friendsat school.The biggestfeature of this book is that it is a novel though,there aredifferent lettersthat formthe wholebook.And theconnection betweensome certainletters is very logical,which makes thetranslator easilyget into the plots of the stories andcatch the inside worldand features ofdifferent characters.However,some connectionsbetween chapters,letters andevensentences arenot thatcoherent,which adds some difficultiesto understand and to make thecharactersand plotsout.And sucha notvery logicaldesign willalso demonstratethesubconscious activitiesand mentalstructures ofcharacters.Generally speaking,the discoursefeature of thiswork isrelatively clearand easyto understand.
111.Translation Difficultiesand SolutionsThe Perks of Being a Wallflower mainlydemonstrates the emotion changesof theleading character,Charlie.The authoremphatically expressesthe emotion feelings and thereare a lot ofdescriptions ofnarrations from the leading character and dialogues betweencharacters.From theperspective ofwords,the translatormainly uses the lexical selection andtheshift of the partof speech.In the source text,the majorfeatureof the dialoguesis conciseandcolloquial,so in the translation,the translator keeps thispeculiar featureand tries to makethe translation fit the Chinese expression andcombines omission and amplification in thetranslation of dialogues.In thepremise ofexpressing theliteral meaningof the source text,the translatorseeks to omit someconstituents and makesthe translation colloquial.In themeantime,according to the context,the translatoraddssome modal particles to the translationto make the charactersmore vivid.In addition,there appearsome long and difficult sentencesin thenarrations,especially thedescription of theemotionfeelings,therefore,the translatorrespectivelyuses division and restructuring method.
111.1Lexical TranslationThe word is the smallestunit oflanguage during the translation.Intheprocess of thetranslation,the translator firstly getsdown to the words.The translatorfinds thatif thesentencesare translatedwords bywords,it cannotconvey thegeneral meaningof the wholebook.As for this,the translatoradopts lexical selection and shift of the partof speechtoanalyze andexplain.

1.1Analysis on the DifficultiesTranslationis anintercommunication.It isdetermined by the informationin the targettext acquiredby thereaders.One wordin the source textmay havemany differentmeanings,so howto properlyselect the words whichfitthe original contextis one of the tough tasksduring the translation.Besides,there arelots ofverbs in Chinese and there are also lots ofnouns.So in the E-C translation,translators aregetting used to translatingthe Englishnouns,prepositions,adjectives,adverbs andetc.into Chineseverbs.The translatormeets withlots ofsuchproblems and then byreading andstudying the sentences again and again,the translatorpicksoutthewords that are theclosest to the source text.

3.2Translation ofLong andDifficult SentencesInthe book,The Perks of Being a Wallflower,there aresomelong and difficultsentencesabout thenarrations ofleadingcharactershowing hisemotionfeelingsand changes.So it is alsoa toughtask totranslate thesesentences in a moreproper wayso that the Chinesereaderscan berapidly attractedby the book andbetter understand the plots of the novel.

2.1Analysis on the DifficultiesTheword orderbetween Chineseand Englishis totallydifferent,especially in the longand difficult sentences,if suchsentences werenot translatedproperly,the target languagewould notbe logicaland smoothfor thereaders.Therefore,the translatoradopts thetranslation methods,Division andRestructuring Method,which needsthe translator toseparate the English sentenceinto differentparts andreadjust andreorganize the sentenceorder so as to make the target languagebetterfitthe Chineseexpression habit and speakingstyle.

2.2Solutions:Division andRestructuring MethodInthe E-C translation practice,using divisionto dividethe longanddifficult sentencesinto parts,sometimes itcan makereaders betterunderstand what thesentencetruly means.And translation isnotjust totranslate theoriginal languageword byword,but to understandthe trulymeaning bywords.And ifnecessarily,the translator needs toreorganize thesentencesto make it moreappropriate to the expression habit of the targetlanguage.Example:lMy mom was always the pretty one,as theysay

3.3Translation ofDialoguesIn the translationpractice,the dialoguebetween charactersis one of theessential partsofthe book.In order to keep the featureand speaking style of theoriginal text,the translatormainlyadopts twotranslatingmethods,omission and amplification.

1.2Task PreparationInordertodemonstrate whatthebookwould expressandmakethe twokinds oflanguagesbest closeto oneanother,thetranslatorfirstly spentmuch timereadingthesource textandwatching thefilm overagain.The translatorwould tryto betterunderstandtheinsideworldandemotion changesofthe character andanalyze thereasons oftheproblems^thecharacterisconfronted with.Secondly,asforthetranslation,considering whattranslationmethodscould beused,thetranslatorhas searcheda fewtranslating booksto findout usefultranslating theories.Atlast,analyze thewriting styleandthefeatures ofthesourcetextandcombine thesourcetextwiththe translationtheories.
1.3Translation ProcessThePerksofBeingaWallflowerisamodernyouthliterature.During theprocessofthetranslation,onethingis tofigureoutthe relationshipsbetweenthecharactersinthebook,thoughthe novelis mostlybasedonthestoriesand narration,making outthe relationshipsbetween themhelpsto betterunderstandtheleading charactersattitudes towardsthethingshappened aroundhim,so thatit wouldbe betterto selectmoresuitablewordsinthetranslation.And anotherone isto payattention tothe culturedifferencesbetween EnglishandChinese.Ihe translatorneedstounderstand distinguishedcultural phenomenaand tryto deal with someexpressionsthat cannotbe translateddirectlyintoChinese.And alsothetranslatorfocuses moreonthesentencestructure,since there areanumber of short singlesentences,including indialogues.Therefore,thetranslatorneedstorestructure thesentencesandmakethenew sentencesmoreclosetothetargetlanguage,not onlyjust conveythe meaningoftheoriginaltextbut alsotheliterariness ofthenovelitself.For example,inthefirstchapter,therearelotsoflong narrationsoftheleading characterCharliewhich arevery spokenatthesame time.Therefore,thetranslatortriestotranslate thosenarrationsinamoreChineseway,which hopefullylet theChinese readersbetter comprehendtheemotion feelingsofthecharacter.Therefore,thetranslatorusesthedivisionandrestructuringmethod todealwiththelonganddifficultnarrations.II.Analysis ontheSourceTextThis chapterhas twoparts.The firstone isthe briefintroductiontothesourcetext,namelyis themajor formationofthewritingstyleand involvesthe aspectof culturecontrast.And thesecondpart isthe analysisofthefeaturesofthe text,thatisfrom theperspectives ofthe lexicalfeature,syntax featureandthediscourse feature.
2.1Brief IntroductiontotheSource TextThesourcetextconsistsoflotsofshort lettersthattheleadingcharacterwrites toa stranger.So almosteach lettercontains narrationsanddialogueswiththe concise wordsand expressionsandshort dailydialoguesbetweenpeople,which requeststhetranslatorto payattentiontotheusage ofthetranslationmethods,especially thelexicalselectionandtheshiftofthe partofspeech.This isfromtheperspectiveoftheconcisefeatureofthe text.And basicallymany sceneshappenin thefamily lifeand schoollife,sothecontents ofthesourcetext alsocontains campusculture,the cultureabout makingfriends andetc,which demonstratesa contrastbetweenEnglishandChinese culture.
2.2Features ofSource TextBeforegetting startedwiththetranslation work,thetranslatorshould knowaboutthelexicalfeatures,syntax features,andthediscourse features.And thisis helpfulforthetranslatortobetterunderstand thesourcetextandtochoose suitabletranslation strategies.
