一、课程性质、目的与任务本课程是英语专业基础课,主要介绍英国、美国、澳大利亚、新西兰和加拿大的历史、地理、政治以及文化、教育、宗教、生活习俗等人文背景方面的基本情况本课程的教学目的使学生对几个主要英语国家的概况有所了解The purposeof thiscourse isto educatestudents on the cultureand history of the WesternWorld,including butnot limitedto,Ireland,Australia,New Zealand,Canada,the UnitedKingdomand theUnited Statesof America.Particular emphasiswill beplaced on the UK,Canada andAmerica.During thecourse,the studentswill practiceand areexpected toimprove upon their comprehensiveEnglish skills aswell astheir communicativeEnglishskills,especially reading,writing,listening,andspeaking.This classwill fbcuson discussionsrevolving especiallyaround culturalcomparisons,using theteachers first-hand knowledgeof thesecountries.

四、教学方法与教学手段本课程采用全班授课形式教师应归纳各章内容的要点,以讲座的形式向学生讲授要求学生认真阅读教材,记忆基本概念,时实与数据,培养学生分析评价问题的能力每章内容结束后,教师应布置个思考题以便学生复习巩固所学知识1〜3
五、考核方式与成绩评定标准本课程采用闭卷考试形式考试内容应包括该课各章节的内容考题可采用以下形式填空、判断、名词解释、简答题、简述题学生的平时作业成绩可占总成绩的10%〜20%
