2023.LiteratureReviewSeveralstudieshaveinvestigatedtheimpactofacademicmajoroninternshipperformancewithvaryingresults.ForinstanceO’BrienHermanandRappaport2020foundthatstudentsmajoringinmarketingtendtoperformbetterduringinternshipsthanthoseinfinanceoraccounting.IncontrastLiandWu2021reportedthatengineeringmajorsweremorelikelytoreceivejoboffersafterinternshipsthanstudentsinbusinessorhumanities.FurthermoretheskillsandcompetenciesrequiredforsuccessfulinternshipsmaydifferdependingonthespecificindustryororganizationalcontextFernandezandLaForge
2019.MethodologyThepresentstudyadoptedamixed-methodsapproachcombiningsurveydataandqualitativeinterviews.Asampleof200internsfromvariousindustriesandregionsinChinawasrecruitedconsistingof100businessEnglishmajorsand100studentsfromothermajors.Participantscompletedastructuredquestionnaireassessingtheirdemographicinformationinternshipperformancecareeraspirationsandperceivedpreparednessfortheinternship.Inaddition20participants10fromeachgroupwereselectedforfollow-upinterviewsexploringtheirexperienceschallengesandsuggestionsregardingtheinternship.ResultsQuantitativeanalysisrevealedseveralsignificantdifferencesbetweenthetwogroupsofinterns.FirstbusinessEnglishmajorshadhigheraveragescoresinoralandwrittencommunicationcross-culturalawarenessandbusinessethicsthantheircounterpartsp.
