疫情背景下英语教学适应性变革回顾与展望IntroductionTheCOVID-19pandemicchangedtheworldinwaysthatwerepreviouslyunimaginable.Fromthewayweworktothewaywesocializethepandemichasimpactedeveryaspectoflife.Theeducationsectorhasnotbeensparedeitherwithmanyschoolsclosingdownandstudentsforcedtostayathome.Thishascreatedanewnormalforeducationsystemsworldwidewithmanyadoptingonlinelearningtoensurecontinuityofeducation.InthisarticlewewillexplorethechangesthathavetakenplaceinEnglishlanguageteachingasaresultofthepandemic.WewilltakealookattheadaptationsthathavebeenmadeanddiscusswhatthefutureholdsforEnglishlanguageteaching.BackgroundBeforethepandemicthetraditionalclassroomwasthenormforteachingandlearningEnglish.Howeverwhenschoolswereclosedthiswasnolongeranoption.Teachersandlearnershadtoadapttoonlinelearningwhichcamewithitsownuniquesetofchallenges.Forexamplemanylearnersdidnothaveaccesstothenecessarytechnologysuchaslaptopsorreliableinternetconnections.Teachershadtofindcreativewaystoengagelearnersandmaintaintheirinterestwhilenavigatingthedifficultiesofonlineteaching.AdaptationsThepandemicforcedmanyeducatorstorethinkthewaytheytaughtEnglish.Someoftheadaptationsthathavebeenmadeinclude:
1.UseofonlineplatformsWiththeclosureofschoolsmanyteachershadtoturntoonlineplatformstocontinueteaching.PlatformslikeZoomMicrosoftTeamsandGoogleMeethavebecomethego-tomethodsofonlineteaching.Theseplatformshaveenabledteacherstocontinueengagingwithlearnersandlearnerstointeractwiththeirpeersandteachersinreal-time.
2.DigitalmaterialsPrintedmaterialsliketextbooksandworkbooksbecameinaccessibletomanylearnersduringthepandemic.Toadaptteachershadtocreatedigitalversionsofthesematerialsthatcouldbeaccessedonline.Thishasmadeiteasierforlearnerstoaccesslearningmaterialsfromanywhere.
