2.IncorporatingAuthenticMaterialsUsingauthenticmaterialssuchassongsmoviesandreal-lifeconversationshelpedmystudentsdeveloptheirlanguageskillsincontext.Bylisteningtoandpracticingspeakingthroughthesematerialsmystudentswereabletodeveloptheirpronunciationintonationandvocabulary.ItalsohelpedtomakelearningEnglishmoreengagingandfunforthem.
3.UsingTask-BasedLearningTask-basedlearningisanapproachthatfocusesonreal-lifetasksandactivitiesinsteadofisolatedlanguageskills.Thisapproachhelpedmystudentsusetheirlanguageskillsinamorepracticalandmeaningfulway.ForexampleIstructuredactivitiesaroundeverydaysituationssuchasorderingfoodormakingaphonecall.ThisapproachenabledmystudentstopracticeEnglishincontextwhilealsodevelopingtheiroralcommunicationskills.
4.GivingStudentsFeedbackAlthoughitisimportanttofocusonspokencommunicationskillsitisequallyimportanttohelpstudentsimprovetheircommunicationskills.Providingfeedbackisapowerfulwaytoachievethisgoal.OverthecourseoftheyearIprovidedregularfeedbacktomystudents.Ilistenedtotheirconversationscarefullytoidentifyerrorsinpronunciationgrammarandvocabulary.Thisfeedbackwasthenusedtohelpmystudentsidentifywheretheycouldimproveandgivethemtipsonhowtoimprove.
5.EncouragingHomeLanguageMaintenanceResearchhasshownthatmaintainingtheirhomelanguagecanactuallyhelpEnglishlanguagelearnersimprovetheirEnglish.AssuchIworkedtoencouragemystudentstospeakwiththeirfamiliesintheirhomelanguage.ThishelpedthemdevelopmoreconfidenceintheiroverallcommunicationabilityandoftentransferredtotheirEnglishskills.ThroughthesestrategiesandmoreIamhappytoseegreatprogressinmystudentsoralcommunicationinEnglish.Thevastmajorityofmyfifth-gradestudentsarenowabletospeakfluentlyandwithconfidenceandarebetterabletounderstandEnglishincontext.Iamexcitedtocontinueimplementingthesestrategiesandmoretohelpmystudentsbecomeevenmoreconfidentcommunicators.第PAGE页共NUMPAGES页。
